Health authorities registered 48 new COVID-19 cases in Cuba today, after 7,545 tests to detect the disease were carried out on the first day of October. 156 patients were discharged and 5,078 have already recovered from the pandemic on the island.
The cases were reported in five provinces: Ciego de Ávila (27 in the main municipality), Havana (13 cases in five municipalities), Sancti Spíritus (six in two municipalities), Matanzas (one in Cárdenas) and Artemisa (one in San Cristóbal).

43 of these contagions correspond to Cubans, and five to foreigners (Indian citizens residing in the Havana municipality of Regla), with which the total is classified as autochthonous.
44 were contacts of confirmed cases, “in fact they were in isolation centers,” Dr. Francisco Durán said during his morning briefing.
In four individuals the source of infection was not specified.
32 males and 16 females; of the total, 28 were asymptomatic at the time of their diagnosis, according to today’s report.
There were also no deaths on the day and the fatality rate is now 2.13%.
By age, the day’s cases classified as: 10 under 20 years; 19 between 20 and 39; 13 between 40 and 59, and six over 60.
Patients in intensive care dropped to six: one in critical condition and five in serious condition.
