Cuba will begin to administer nasalferon at home to contacts of COVID-19 positive cases and the people who live with them, as part of the application of changes in the protocol to confront the coronavirus epidemic, which began this Tuesday in Havana.
The family doctors and nurses, as well as students of the last years of the medical career, will be in charge of applying the interferon therapy through the nose that, after the Cuban capital, will be validated to be extended to other parts of the country, the newspaper Tribuna de La Habana reported.

During a meeting of the government’s temporary working group for the prevention and control of the pandemic, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Roberto Morales explained that “the practice should be that all contacts of a COVID-19 positive case be isolated.”
He added that home admission conceives care measures similar to those of isolation centers, such as daily visits by the health workers in charge of the health area.
For his part, the governor of Havana, Reinaldo García, pointed out that with this procedure, families who must fulfill the period of isolation in their homes will feel hospitalized and will generate a greater perception of risk and danger.
Cuban Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal reported that an average of 821.7 daily infections was registered in February, which represents an increase of 64% compared to the first month of the year.

He explained that the highest levels of infections were reported in Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Pinar del Río, Mayabeque, and Camagüey, where 84 percent of the people diagnosed with COVID-19 during February were concentrated.
In the month 108 people died due to the disease, so the death rate since the detection of the first coronavirus infections on the island, on March 11, 2020, is 0.64%, the product of 324 deaths out of the total number of 50,590 patients.
