SARS-CoV-2 virus infections in Cuba fell to 772 on Tuesday, according to the report issued today by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), which emphasizes the five deaths and the number of patients in intensive care.
The fatalities (three women and two men, aged between 40 and 96 years) reported from the provinces of Havana, Camagüey, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, raise the death toll to 357; 33 of them have occurred so far in March. The death rate is now 0.61%.
Regarding new infections, the majority (764) correspond to autochthonous transmission and eight were imported cases. Most of these were from Havana, which also continues to be the province with the highest incidence rate on the island.

Yesterday, the capital reported 379 infections and nine of its municipalities, along with one from Mayabeque or another from Pinar del Río, concentrated 45.4% of the transmission in the last fifteen days.
The rest of the provinces that detected the highest number of patients with COVID-19 this Tuesday were Mayabeque and Sancti Spíritus, although all provinces are affected by the pandemic. In contrast, Ciego de Ávila reported four cases and Las Tunas one.

The intensive care wards also reported an increase in their patients, raising the figure to the highest point that had been recorded in the country, again 73, although now with more people in serious condition: 30 are in critical condition and 43 in serious condition.
This situation has been worsening since last February 4 a peak was reported in the country’s ICUs due to the pandemic, a situation that has not changed much since then.
As of midnight on Tuesday, 22,947 were under some type of hospitalization while the confirmed active cases totaled 4,516.
According to the MINSAP, 18,678 samples were processed and the number of reported discharges reached 857 patients. 52.5% of the cases were asymptomatic.
March already has a total of 7,789 infections due to the new coronavirus.
