Laritza Bacallao was never afraid of the stage, note even when she was a little girl and used to sing with the Aragon band, which was huge. She isn’t afraid now either as she tours the country, accompanied by the project Por un Mundo Mejor(For a better world) (PMM by its acronym in Spanish), getting rounds of applauses from the audience. Perhaps, as people say, that’s because she’s got pedigree, artist descent and she cannot hide it.
Laritza is no longer that little child with a promising future in the continuance of a family tradition in music. Today, she is one of the latest and most interesting voices of the Cuban music, traits not inherited but deserved for her tenacity.
Her voice allows her to successfullywalk in and out ballads such as “Someone like you”and less demanding (from the vocal point of view) musical genres as reggaeton. She sets crowds in motion with the same grace she captivates them, as revealed by her national tour Soy Cuba (I’m Cuba) along with PMM, which is half way already since its beginning in March in the eastern part of the country.
This tour has taken LED lights and screens (which characterizePMM) and a cultural proposal to unusual places, thus setting the bar high for similar projects and sends the message that when music is accompanied by a good show, the outcome is hard to supersede.
Héctor Díaz Yáñez, better known as Hectico DJ, leader of PMM and Laritza’s producer for four years now, agreed with the statement above and noted for OnCuba that this is their first tour and that their expectations have been exceeded.
The guys say they are tired because they daily assemble and disassemble metal structures, instruments, lightings, and audio, no matter how sleepy they might be; but when they say it is ready, there are no flaws, no sound gaps and no lights out of time.
“We want to call people’s attention towards Laritza, our girl, PMM’s diva”, he said when she was not around and yet, this team relies in such synchrony that she assures she is not a diva though that might be her goal; she wants to reach people as no one has ever done.
Soy Cuba gifted the audience with their favorite songs: Se te fue el avión, Ya te olvidé, Carnaval and Que suenen los tambores. The video clip of this last song lost an award in the category of most popular video but won the award by Cubavision(a Cuban television channel), an unprecedented event that, in the opinion of a few suspicious people, was addressed at making amends.
The first part of the tour concluded in the central province of Sancti Spiritus and will continue in Santa Clara after Cliff Diving 2014 (also in charge of PMM). Hectico also announced that PMM is getting ready for joining other artists as for instance, Issac Delgado, Gente de Zona and possibly Manolín el Médico de la Salsa.
