The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported this Saturday 87 new cases of coronavirus, so the number of confirmed on the island amounted to 9,354, while 81 medical discharges and one deceased were reported (there are already 137 deaths in the country) at the close of Friday, December 11.
The MINSAP report specified that there are 844 active cases in the country, of which 836 have a stable clinical evolution, while one person is in critical condition (a 21-year-old citizen living in Santiago de Cuba) and seven are in serious in condition.
Regarding the deceased, he is an 81-year-old Cuban citizen, who lived in Guane municipality, Pinar del Río. With a history of hypertension and chronic lung disease, the patient had evolved favorably after being confirmed as a contact of a positive case, but since Thursday, December 10, he presented complications and this Friday he died of cardiac arrest in asystole.

According to the health authorities, a total of 4,114 patients are hospitalized for clinical epidemiological surveillance and there are 747 suspects, while another 2,523 people are under primary healthcare surveillance.
On the other hand, 72.4% (63) of the cases on Friday were asymptomatic. According to the daily reports of the MINSAP, 5,995 patients without symptoms have been identified as positive, which represents 64.1% of all those infected. The authorities started providing this information on April 9.
Of the 87 new positive cases, 34 are contacts of confirmed patients and the source of infection for five is being investigated. As it has already become a trend, the largest number of infections (48) are citizens with a source of infection abroad.
Divided by provinces, Havana reported the highest number of cases on Friday (34), followed by Guantánamo (nine) and Pinar del Río and Matanzas with eight. Ten other provinces also reported at least one case: seven in Santiago de Cuba, four in Artemisa and Cienfuegos, three in Mayabeque, Villa Clara and Camagüey, and one in Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Holguín and Isla de la Juventud.
According to official sources, 1,239,997 diagnostic tests (PCR) have already been carried out on the island. This Friday the number of samples rose to 10,484, one of the highest since the pandemic began.
The encouraging detail of the day was the 81 medical discharges, the second highest figure this week, after last Tuesday’s 90. After compiling these data, there are 8,371 recovered patients, which represents 89.4% of all those infected during the pandemic.
