According to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), on November 27 a health worker coming from Mozambique arrived in Cuba. He was asymptomatic and traveled to Pinar del Río, the province where he lives.

On November 28, that unidentified person presented a slight fever and a sore throat. In the health area where he went, an antigen test was carried out and it was positive. He was admitted to the León Cuervo Rubio Hospital.

According to the MINSAP, that same day a PCR-RT was carried out. It was positive and the sample was sent to the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine for sequencing.

Five days after being hospitalized, an evolutionary PCR-RT was performed, which was negative. He was discharged asymptomatic.

Cuba affirms it is already designing a vaccine against the Omicron variant and can develop it “in a short time”

On December 8, the MINSAP said, the sequencing of the positive sample was concluded and it was confirmed that he carried the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
