The SARS-CoV-2 virus infections identified this Thursday totaled 659 in Cuba, registered in 15 provinces. The data continues to underline the “high complexity and high transmission” of this outbreak, in the words of Dr. Francisco Durán.
Of the total, 623 are due to autochthonous transmission, a circumstance for which in the last fifteen days 7,541 people have suffered from COVID-19. 404 imported cases have been registered in the same period.

The provinces that registered the highest number of infections by the virus yesterday, according to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) report, were Havana (312 cases), Santiago de Cuba (71), Ciego de Ávila (55), Villa Clara ( 53), Matanzas (36), Guantánamo (32) and Mayabeque (31).
Some of these territories show the highest incidence rates. The trend in recent days seems to be maintained in Guantánamo, Havana and Santiago de Cuba, which lead the statistics with 214.19, 159.94 and 106.04 per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.
By age group, 89 of the positive cases had not reached the age of 20; of them, 82 were of pediatric age. According to Dr. Durán, the total number of this group has been 2,522 during the entire pandemic. Of the rest: 207 classify between 20 and 39; 233, between 40 and 59, and 130 were over 60.
In short, the total of positive cases of the day: 582 were related to confirmed cases, in 41 individuals the source of infection was not specified and 36 acquired the virus abroad. Russia, Spain, the United States, Italy and Mexico were the countries with the highest incidence, in a day where 21 foreigners were detected as positive for the virus.
With the two deaths, Cuba increases its list of fatalities due to the pandemic to 210. They are two men, 71 and 82 years old and residents of Havana and Matanzas. January was also the deadliest month, raising the figure to 64.
For this report, Cuban laboratories processed 13,903 samples.
11,304 patients were hospitalized until midnight on Thursday, and those in intensive care dropped to 39: 18 in critical condition and 21 in serious condition. A five-year-old child stands out in this group.
Although the discharges on the day present a notable volume, 563, the figure did not exceed the total of new infections, with whose registry there are already a total of 24,764 patients with COVID-19 on the Island since March.
