The Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (ETECSA), the only one of its kind on the island, this Wednesday announced the start of a new mobile telephony service called “Adelanta Saldo.”

The service consists of a loan of 1.00 or 2.00 convertible pesos (CUC, equivalent to the dollar) to their prepaid customers, which will then be deducted from a future recharge and charged a surcharge of 20 centavos.

Only those who recharge their account in the first three days after the loan will avoid this ETECSA “fine.”

To be able to receive the service, it is also necessary to comply with a series of conditions, including having a balance equal to or less than 3 centavos at the time of requesting the “advance” and having recharged in the last two months.

In addition, customers must not accumulate other outstanding loans of this type nor have available minutes, messages or money from promotional bonuses offered by the company for a limited period, although they may have valid Voice, SMS, Data packages and Mail Bag.

The amount requested, clarifies the company, “always goes to the customer’s main account and does not change the life cycle of the line.”

To access the service, people must dial *234# and then option 3. Once granted by ETECSA, the company will send a confirmation SMS.

In case the client does not return the loaned amount, the state communications monopoly will make it impossible to carry out a series of operations, among them the change of number, ownership of the account and SIM card, the report of calls and the cutting of service at the owner’s request.
