During a meeting of the Defense Council of Granma province, held this Sunday in Bayamo, it was decided to close the province’s land borders for the passage of people.
Therefore, from now on passage will only be allowed for essential economic activities. The measure responds to the report of positive cases of the new coronavirus in neighboring provinces, and seeks to prevent the spread of the situation in Granma, which has been free of the disease for 20 days.
Since last week in Granma, control points have been operating in places bordering neighboring provinces (Las Tunas, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba) to regulate the movement of people, check their health status and, if necessary, proceed with their isolation.
On the other hand, it was learned that in the towns of Marimón, in the Agüero Mar Verde People’s Council, and Cuabitas, in that of Boniato, both in the neighboring province of Santiago de Cuba, a 14-day quarantine was declared to limit the transmission of the virus.
This measure includes limiting the entry and exit from these communities to essential personnel, the operation of commercial centers and services from 07:00 to 19:00 and only for residents and reducing human movement between 20:00 and 07:00.
