Since last Friday, the Ha Bici-Inteliforja Public Bicycle System has another station for its services, now in La Coronela, in the Havana municipality of La Lisa.

According to Tribuna de La Habana, it will cover various types of orders, ranging from bicycle rental, parcel delivery and maintenance workshops for cycles from private owners.

It will also provide services to community users from other areas, Milay Gallardo Díaz, vice president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power of La Lisa, explained to the media.

For university students, the service applies a 20% discount, while for adults over 65 years of age and people with disabilities, it is between 10 and 20%.

Advertising on wheels

Another option of this system is mobile advertising. Through a prior contract, businesses have the possibility of advertising through the use of bicycles, “those that move throughout the territory,” says Tribuna de La Habana.

The first station of the Ha Bici-Inteliforja Public Bicycle System was inaugurated in January 2023 at the José Antonio Echeverría Technological University of Havana, also known as Cujae.

In the testing phase, it began last year with a total of 300 bicycles. It is part of the Havana Neomobility project for the safe use of these vehicles as alternative and sustainable means of transportation, according to a report from the Agencia Cubana de Noticias news agency.

Among its objectives is reducing carbon emissions in urban transportation in the Cuban capital and contributing to the mitigation of climate change. The General Department of Provincial Transportation of Havana, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility participate in the program.

In on-demand rental, bicycle rental modalities are provided, both from station to station, as well as free routes, with differentiated rates and accessible to the public.

According to ACN, Fernando Hiraldo, resident representative of the UNDP in Cuba, then explained that the entry into operation of the cycle stations “contributes to strengthening ties between the public and private sectors to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals until 2030.”
