The First International Choral Workshop, to be held in Havana from June 30 through July 6, 2013, will have as its main theme the interpretation of Cuban music written for choirs.
The event, sponsored by the CORAHABANA Festival, will bring together the directors of professional, university, community and vocal groups, and teachers, Madelaine Masses, deputy director of the National Center of Concert Music told On Cuba.
For anyone interested in participating, the meeting chaired by the teacher Digna Guerra proposes holding workshops and classes that will address the technical direction, interpretation of works by Cuban composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and work arrangements from folk music.
Masses said they need to have exchanges like these, to promote the knowledge and experience of the reality of the choral movement of the participating countries.
The subjects will be taught by leading figures such as teachers Carmen Collado, Alina Orraca and Jose Antonio Mendez, director of the Polyphonic Choir of Havana, Schola Cantorum Coralina and the Chamber Choir of Matanzas, respectively.
The event also includes a program of concerts with vocal formations of the island, which will be held at major concert halls of the historic center of Havana and includes a closing one, where participants will appreciate the results of the International Choral Workshop.
